RED BARAAT CONFIRMS SUMMER FESTIVALS INCLUDING GREAT GOOGAMOOGA, FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE LOUISIANE, DEL FEST, WAKARUSA AND JAZZ FEST DATE
BAND LEADER SUNNY JAIN TO BRING HIS ELECTRIFYING DHOL DRUMMING T0 NEW YORK AND LOS ANGELES PERFORMING WITH MASTERS OF JAZZ AND GLOBAL MUSIC
Tireless touring eight-piece Red Baraat, who have grown "from an underground cult item in Brooklyn to a headliner at venues as big as Webster Hall" (New York Daily News) are set to bring their wild, brass-infused bhangra to U.S. festivals and elsewhere in coming months following electrifying runs through Mardi Gras, SXSW and their own Festival of Colors shows in New York and Philadelphia earlier this year. Appearances include the Great Googamooga festival in Brooklyn, DelFest in Maryland and Wakarusa in Arkansas.
Additionally, Red Baraat's Sunny Jain has accepted an invitation to bring his thunderous dhol drumming to the National Jazz Museum in Harlem April 30 to perform with museum director Jonathan Batiste – part of a program illuminating the global roots of Jazz. Jain will also appear at Los Angeles' Skirball Cultural Center May 16 and will be joined by Common Chords, a gathering of musicians from different cultures and religions, led by famed Pakistani singer/guitarist Salman Ahmad (Junoon) and world-renowned klezmer violinist Yale Strom. The group combines rock, klezmer, jazz, bhangra, Indian, Sufi, and qawwali into a new and distinct and exciting hybrid.
Since the January release of their album Shruggy Ji, Brooklyn's Red Baraat have seen a meteoric rise, snagging a #1 debut on Billboard's World Music chart, sell out shows at NY's Bowery Ballroom and Boston's Sinclair, and features in the Wall Street Journal, New York Daily News and NPR's Weekend Edition. Their debut performance for NPR's World Café will air this spring and the band will announce additional summer and fall festival dates and headlining shows soon.
