Confirmed For SXSW; U.S. Tour With Cuddle Magic Hits Boston, NYC, DC and Philly And More In March

A gorgeous gush of warm-blooded harmonies7 out of 10, UNCUT

Singer Rachel Ries sat down with NPR Weekend Edition this week to discuss her newest long player Ghost of a Gardener, out today. Ries explains to host Rachel Martin how her unique experience growing up the daughter of Mennonite missionaries in South Dakota and Zaire, as well as her self-imposed exile from music came to influence her new songs.

Ries' first tour in years kicked off in the midwest earlier this month and will see her perform at SXSW in Austin as well as 17 other cities including Boston, New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia and more. A portion of the tour will find Ries backed by and sharing the bill with Brooklyn-based chamber ensemble Cuddle Magic.

Ries' voice at times echoes that of Regina Spektor or early Maria Muldaur and her new album is full of thoughtful and inventive arrangements. Fingerpicked-melodicism pairs with sweeping strings & analog synths, while a Merle Haggard-style drinking song struts with trumpets and close knit harmonies. The album was produced by Ries, along with Secretly Canadian artist David Vandervelde.
