The Riflebirds of Portland Release New Single “You Win” Long-awaited new album Windmills on the Moon arrives August 15
Album release party confirmed for July 19 at Portland, OR’s Music Millennium
Portland, OR – July 11, 2025 — The Riflebirds of Portland return with “You Win,” the new single from their first new album in over 30 years. Out Friday, July 11, the track marks a bold reintroduction to a band once known for its cult following in the Pacific Northwest’s late-‘80s psych-folk underground. Their full-length, Windmills on the Moon, will follow on August 15, available on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms.
Written with warmth and hard-won clarity, “You Win” arrives on the heels of strong radio support for their previous single, “It Doesn’t Matter Much to Me,” which earned spins on college and AAA radio nationwide as well as National Public Radio. The new track deepens the band’s signature blend of poetic Americana, celestial harmonies, and Laurel Canyon shimmer—wrapped in a sound that’s both classic and current.
Windmills on the Moon was produced by longtime collaborator Marvin Etzioni (Lone Justice), who helped shape the band’s early studio experiments in the 1980s. Recorded at The Sonic Boom Room and mastered by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios, the album features rich vocal arrangements from The Mermaids and finds the reunited band channeling years of life, distance, and rediscovery into a moving, melody-driven statement.
Fans in Portland will get the first chance to celebrate the release in person at a special in-store performance and album signing at Music Millennium on Saturday, July 19 at 5:00 PM. Advance vinyl copies of Windmills on the Moon will be available at the event—a full month before the album’s wide release.
