[Mills’] hidden elegance lies in the twist of lovesick metaphor, the wistful chord, the revisionist take on the slamming door. – NME
Following praise for his forthcoming album Alexandria (out Jan 21) from USA Today (“a great one”) and KDHX (“Mills knows how to tap into the release and yearning of rock ‘n’ roll”), acclaimed indie troubadour Chris Mills has confirmed an album release show at Brooklyn’s Union Hall on February 7. The show comes at the tail end of Mills’ first U.S. tour in three years where he’ll perform songs from Alexandria backed by his new band The Distant Stars.
Hailed as “the best songwriter we have in Gotham” by Skyscraper magazine, Mills contributed backing vocals to Okkervil River’s latest album Silver Gymnasium and has shared bills with Neko Case, Andrew Bird, Wilco, Ben Folds, Nick Lowe, and countless others. His new album features nine stunning originals recorded in New York, Chicago, and Oslo, Norway, and mixed by Grammy award winning engineer Ryan Freeland (Tift Merrit, Ray LeMontagne, Aimee Mann).
Mills will head to Europe for a run of dates in February before returning to the states to perform at SXSW in March. Additional March/April U.S. dates to be announced soon.
