Listen To Joe Henry’s Poetic New Album ‘Thrum’ via The Los Angeles Times Prior To Its Oct 27 Release
U.S. Tour Announced For December
His lyrics studiously sidestep the obvious, the trite and the literal in favor of graceful allusions and mercurial metaphors that strive, like great poetry, to outwit the mind. That’s a tall order in a world that increasingly seems unable, or unwilling, to look beyond rigid literalism on almost any front. – THE LOS ANGELES TIMES
Thrum, the new studio album by Grammy award winner Joe Henry, premieres today via The Los Angeles Times. Listen to the entire album here.
On Thrum, Henry is joined by several trusted long-time musical co-conspirators – drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist David Piltch, pianist Patrick Warren, guitarist John Smith, and his multi-instrumentalist son Levon Henry. The album was recorded and mixed ‘live’ to stereo tape by Ryan Freeland at United Recording, Studio B; Hollywood, CA. Henry, who also took upon the role as producer, managed to create a remarkable album with an extraordinary recording approach. The album is set for an October 27, 2017 release on CD, Digital, and 180-gram 2xLP.
Henry, an in-demand producer, has recently produced new albums for the late Allen Toussaint as well as Lizz Wright and Joan Baez. He will mount a U.S. tour this fall featuring longtime collaborators Bellerose, Piltch, Warren and Levon – all of whom appear on Thrum. Rose Cousins, whose recent album Natural Conclusion Henry produced, will open several of the shows. See below for a full list of tour dates.
