Concert Set For Oct 4, 5 In Central Park Will Feature Music By The Blood Brothers, Cat Power, Atomic Bomb! The Music of William Onyeabor, The Both, Liars, Stars + More
Following seven years of explosive growth across China, becoming that country’s largest music festival ever, The Modern Sky Festival is now set to come to the United States for the first time, bringing a wide-ranging, two-day musical gathering to Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield in New York, October 4th & 5th 2014.
Brooklyn Flea’s Smorgasburg Food Market will provide festival goers with food from New York favorites including Asia Dog, Blue Marble Ice Cream, Lonestar Empire BBQ, and Pizza Moto. Additionally, VIP ticket holders will gain access to an exclusive pre-show buffet catered by Williamsburg’s Baby’s All Right.
Celebrated New York designer Wendy Mullin (Built By Wendy) has been commissioned to design the official festival merchandise, which includes t-shirts, jumpsuits, totes, and her iconic guitar straps. All will be on sale in limited quantities during both days of the festival.
Long Island action sports specialists Panda Diplomacy will also be on hand with boards, clothing and other merchandise. The company takes its name from China’s long held convention of dealing pandas to allies as a gesture of friendship in an effort to promote goodwill, sportsmanship, and environmental awareness between like-minded spirits around the world.
More music recently added to the Atomic Bomb! line up include Jamie Lidell & the Mahotella Queens, coming all the way from Nashville, Tennessee, and Johannesburg, South Africa respectively. The guests will be joining Atomic Bomb!’s Ahmed Ghallab and his band Sinkane, Money Mark and Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor (along with a fantastic group of horn players and Nigerian percussionists!).
The festival will mark the first New York show by the Blood Brothers since recently reunited and will feature a rare full band performance by Cat Power. Rising Chinese indie bands including Deserts Zhang Xuan and Second Hand Rose will open both days.
