Six-time Grammy winners and the world’s most popular Irish traditional music group, The Chieftains, have confirmed an extensive, 18-date U.S. tour for 2014. The tour will feature an array of surprise guests and will kick off on Feb 19 in Davis, CA before heading to cities such as Austin, Milwaukee, New York, and more, with a special St. Patrick’s Day show in Newport News, VA. See below for complete dates.
“We’ll be revisiting our roots and incorporating some of our early traditional pieces from back when our journey began 52 years ago,” says Chieftains leader Paddy Moloney. “We’ll also add to the group a young fiddle champion and an award winning guitarist, both from Ireland.”
The Chieftains have kept busy since their 2013 U.S. visit as Paddy Moloney, Matt Molloy, Sean Keane, Kevin Conneff and Triona Marshall were all awarded honorary doctorates from the Dublin Institute of Technology. The Chieftains also performed at a tribute ceremony for Nobel Prize Winner Seamus Heaney who passed away in August of this year and recorded with the Von Trapp Great Grand Children in Ireland for an upcoming project.
Other surprise guests will join the Chieftains throughout the tour. Details to be announced soon.
