Portland, OR – August 19, 2025 — Nearly four decades after their original run in Portland’s fertile indie scene, The Riflebirds of Portland have returned with Windmills on the Moon (Regional Records), an album that has been met with glowing praise from the international music press. Produced by Grammy-winner Marvin Etzioni, mastered at the iconic Abbey Road Studios by Grammy-winner Sean Magee, and featuring cover art from the legendary Edward Hopper, the record bridges eras with its timeless sound.

Critics are celebrating the band’s remarkable return:

“36 years on, a belated second album from a band clearly with unfinished business.” – AMERICANA UK

“‘Windmills on The Moon’ is a refreshingly original record that sounds familiar in all the right ways.” – FOLK AND TUMBLE

“The sound is still rooted in late 60s West Coast folk rock… [a] throwback to those 60s West Coast pop days of acts like The Mamas and The Papas and The Sunshine Company.” – FATEA RECORDS

“An album that reaches out from a different era and absolutely nails the responsibility of the modern point of view.”– LIVERPOOL SOUNDS AND VISION

“In 2025, the group presents new and courageous music. If the scandals and lies are getting to be a bit much, ‘Windmills on the Moon’ is the perfect antidote.” – REAL ROOTS CAFÉ

“A sound that is brilliant and decidedly fun.” – PLANET COUNTRY

Originally formed in 1985, the group built a reputation with their melodic blend of folk, pop, and West Coast rock before disbanding in 1989. In 2024, founding members Lee Oser (bass), Kevin Kraft (guitar), and Kate Lieuallen Oser (vocals), along with drummer Kevin Jarvis, reunited as The Riflebirds of Portland, releasing singles “It Doesn’t Matter Much to Me” and “Sometime Somewhere” ahead of the new album.

Windmills on the Moon is now available on vinyl, CD, and all digital platforms via Regional Records.
