Portland, OR – The Riflebirds of Portland (formerly The Riflebirds) are back with their first new music in decades. The band’s highly anticipated single, Sometime Somewhere, was released on February 28th, marking the first taste of their forthcoming album, Windmills on the Moon, due in 2025 via Regional Records.
With a storied past that began in the late 1980s, The Riflebirds made waves with their Marvin Etzioni-produced debut April—a sought-after cassette release that saw their single Pieces of Time featured on the influential CMJ (College Music Journal) compilation. Columbia Records took notice, but before any deals could be struck, the band disbanded.
Now, after decades apart, the original members have reunited, with Etzioni once again in the producer’s chair. The band’s lineup features drummer Kevin Jarvis (Brian Wilson, Lucinda Williams, Elvis Costello), bassist and chief songwriter Lee Oser (now an English literature professor and author), vocalist Kate Oser (now a children’s librarian), and lead guitarist Kevin Kraft (now a Silicon Valley software tester).
Their new album, Windmills on the Moon, will be available on Vinyl, CD, and all digital platforms in 2025. The album’s cover art features a piece by the legendary Edward Hopper, and the project has been mastered at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London by Grammy-winning engineer Sean Magee (The Beatles).
With a mix of evocative songwriting and rich musical history, Windmills on the Moon promises to be a compelling return for The Riflebirds of Portland. Fans can hear, Sometime Somewhere, now with more music to come as the band embarks on this exciting new chapter.
