New York, NY — August 10, 2021 – Word Collections has confirmed agreements to represent the work of famed comedian David Cross as well as the estate of comedy legend and activist Dick Gregory and the estate of Muhammed Ali. The announcement follows a recently completed round of fund raising from Black Squirrel Partners and the hiring of Jean Chadwick as VP Copyright and Administration
Word Collections is currently representing copyrights and works by the Robin Williams Estate, George Carlin Estate, Margaret Cho, Bill Hicks Estate, Louie Anderson, Bill Engvall, Muhammad Ali Estate, Robert Schimmel, Louie Anderson, Jim Breuer, Andrew Dice Clay and more (see below for larger list). Word Collections licenses legally required, non-musical Literary Work rights in spoken word comedy and other performing arts for streaming services such as Spotify, YouTube, broadcast radio (digital and terrestrial) and others.
“The comedians are the voices influencing and changing the world with satire, humor, laughter and commentary,” says Word Collections founder and CEO Jeff Price. “What they do literally topples regimes and moves societies while, in some cases, putting their lives in danger. Despite this, and their impact, their works are taken and used by companies to drive subscribers, market share and revenue without licenses and without payments. Word Collections will make certain they are properly licensed and paid from the hundreds of billions of past and future global streams and radio broadcasts of their works. It’s the least we can do for them.”
